How to Recognize Candida in Your Pet … and Yourself

If you notice one or more of these symptoms on a regular basis, you may need to consider treating for Candida:

 ·         Itchy, inflamed skin or Smelly, itchy ears
 ·         Rubbing the face or muzzle on floors & furniture
 ·         Recurring ear infections

·         Frequent eye infections

·         Chronic bladder or urinary tract infections

·         Persistent respiratory problems (wheezing, coughing, nasal discharge)

·         Stinky dog syndrome: smelly skin, bad breath, stinky ears, etc

·         Joint pain

·         Anxious or nervous behaviors

·         Dull or greasy coat & excessive shedding
 ·         Food or environmental allergies and sensitivities

·         Chronic gastrointestinal problems (loose stools, gas, IBD)

If you have tried other treatments for your companion’s ailments without success, then suspect Candida.  Candida albicans is a tiny yeast organism that lives naturally on the skin and in the digestive tract of dogs, cats  - and humans.  Normally these yeast organisms live harmoniously with the millions of bacteria that also reside on the skin and in the digestive tract and cause no problem.  If the balance of bacteria is disrupted due to stress, disease or medications (antibiotics, steroids, etc.), then the yeast can begin to take over.  Officially this is called “Candidiasis” – or yeast overgrowth.  See Could it be Candida? in our newsletter archives for more detailed information.

Candidiasis is quite common in humans.  Do you suffer from any of the following symptoms on a recurring basis?

  • General fatigue, mental fogginess, irritability, chronic headaches, mood swings
  • Gastrointestinal issues such as food sensitivities, heartburn, bloating, diarrhea or constipation.
  • Respiratory allergy problems including rhinitis, sneezing and/or wheezing, chronic cough.
  • Central nervous system disorders including anxiety, depression, memory deficits and/or loss of ability to concentrate.
  • For women – menstrual abnormalities such as severe premenstrual tension and/or menstrual irregularities, and/or recurrent vaginitis.
  • Difficulty losing weight

If so, consider candida overgrowth as a suspect.  Products you and your companion can both use in your fight against Candida include:  Phytostan, Bio-Zyme, Coconut Oil, and Quercenol.
