I love the post from Eleanor about using writing to "open the time capsule". I think it's really a personal decision how long to wait before getting another pet. Take care, Phyllis

I am so glad that Honda is alive and well due to a vigilant owner!~~! I am on now reading this today because my little min-pin Cosmo has been sick for two days now. The first day I didnt really know he was sick. Infact I thought my 22 year old son had taken him with him that day because I get up every morning and go straight to work in my office. Well, I always have 3 little companions hanging out with me and day before yesterday, Cosmo wasnt there. He didnt come in for his greenie treat or his wellness snacks and that is not at all like Cosmo! That night when my son got home and I realized he didnt have Cozzy, I immediately started looking around for him and he had been in my bed all day under the covers sleeping! This morning , once again, he didnt come in for his greenie and so I took him to the vet. His temp is normal, his gums look good and he has no other symptoms except an emptyl look in his eye and no energy at all. The vet gave him a cortosone shot and antibiotics. I must say though that I left the vets office feeling worried that by Monday, he might not be alive anymore , the way he is behaving. Even w/ a normal temp, he is sick for sure and I know it! I just dont know what is wrong exactly but after reading this, I wish I would have insisted on an xray. I did mention it as well as ask that he draw my dogs blood and he said for now that we should just treat his symptoms. I am so worried about him and now tomorrow is Sunday and I feel like he should be taken back immedaitely and xrayed and have a blood panel drawn! Vets sometimes!!!! I wonder how common a condition like Hondas is and did the vet have any other ideas of what might be wrong? this vet seems to think it could be pancreatitis. He isnt vommiting and stomach is not tender to the touch. I really would love some help with this fast! Thanks for sharing your story! Laura from Oregon

YAY! Finally an article where my little doggie is understood. As a puppy (he still is) he faithfully ate his "one" food recommended by the vet. At about 6 months of age (after tasting little "tidbits" of human food) he just stopped eating it. He looked at this bowl of flavorless stuff and looked at me, and I could tell we were in for a fight. Now he's 8 months of age and we're still experimenting. I bought a book on "natural - human" food diets for dogs, have added vita-powder to human meat that I cooled myself (beef, chicken!), and honestly, I feed him more nutritious human food than I eat myself! He loves the variety, different presentations of foods, and even eating at different times of day. I have 6 bags (6!!!) of the best dry dog food money can buy (this is top quality stuff), and he won't touch any of it! I also have sampled a variety of canned dog foods and he'll only eat very small quantities. I won't say his "eating issues" are completely over, but the frustration of watching him sit by a full bowl of food, not eating, is over for me.

I am having poop eating problems with my 1 years old shihtzu "Annie". I am presently giving her the stool eating deterrent and enzymes. Her food source is Canidae dry as well as canned. She eats both chicken and lamb the change seems to make no difference.. Also she is experiencing fear to ride in the car. I have tried two different types of natural products to try to calm her. I hope that someone has the tips we need to make her refrain from both of these unfortunate problems. thanks

I lost my dog Cody about 5 years ago, and I did not deal with my grief at the time. I had to put him to sleep very suddenly, no time to "prepare" myself, and then after it was over I went home and stuffed my feelings for 5 years. I finally started writing about it and was able to open the time capsule (the grief and feelings never leave, they just travel with you until you deal with them). I started writing down the story recently (http://journeywithcody.blogspot.com), and it has helped IMMENSELY. So much so that I was able to open up my heart and adopt a new puppy into my life. He doesn't take the place of Cody but boy, is it sure great to have another dog around. I highly recommend dealing with the grief and then going out and getting a new buddy - I think it is all part of the healing process.
